[Updated below 20.00] This afternoon’s [21st October] closure of the A83 at Rest and Be Thankful is not due to a landslide but to a road traffic accident in the current gales. Police say gusts of 88 mph have been recorded there today.

The road remains closed in both directions at 17.20 [update: now 18.45] and there is as yet no indication when it is expected to reopen.

The usual diversion appulis – between Tarbet and Inveraray using the A82 from Tarbet through Crianlarich, Tyndrum and Dalmally to the A819 down Loch Aweside to Inveraray.

Update 20.00: We understand that the A83 at Rest and Be Thankful reopened at around 19.00; that one lorry had been blown into the water at Loch Restil and another was blown over on the road. Both of these reports are unconfirmed as yet and we do not have notice of any injuries.
